Osage Bluff Fishing Report 7/25/19

This has been just about a perfect week for fishing. With the temps cooling down a little and no rain and the COE still pulling water things are starting to pick up here on Truman. The water temps are holding in the low 80's and the water clarity is perfect so we should be in for some super summer fishing. LAKE LEVEL:          727.0 WATER TEMP:        81 deg. WATER CLARITY:   Clear to lightly stained. CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing is starting to pick up. Secondary points in about 20' of water fishing down 10' to 12' with minnows is starting to produce numbers of fish with minnows being the best bait. With the fish holding in 20' puts them right about on the original bank line. There are more of the tree rows on the flats appearing all the time even though they are deep the crappie are still holding on them. Electronics play a big part locating the trees still under the surface but with a couple trees out its not that hard to locate them. The fish are still holding at about 10' here to with minnows working the best. As the lake continues to drop these tree rows will get more productive. BASS: The bass fishing is picking up here on Truman. The are on their normal summer pattern of hanging out on the points. With the water flow we have through the dam it creates good current breaks on the points that help hold the fish. Worms or creature baits are working the best now. Look in 10' to 12' of water fishing the points into the current. There is also a top water bite early and late on the flats where the shad are balling up. Buzz baits and Pop R's are the best in about 8' of water. WHITES & HYBRIDS: The whites and hybrids slowed down a little this week. There are still lots of fish showing up on the graf  but with so many shad on the surface its kind of hard to get them to hit. The best bite has been in the evening about sunset. KK Island has been holding some fish along with the hump in front on the Fairfield  boat ramp. The 4" sassy shad on a 1/2 oz head seems to be the best bait. There has been some surfacing fish hitting the big pods of shad. CATFISH: Jugs are still the best thing going for catfish right now. The most productive areas are the flats in 10' to 15' of water with baits set 5' to 8' with cut bait working the best. Trot lines on the edges of the flats close to the creek channels are also working. Keep all baits above 20' due to the lack of oxygen below 20'. With the warmer water temps jugs and lines have to be checked more often to prevent fish loss. WALLEYE: There are some nice walleye coming in this summer. Crawler rigs seem to be working the best. Best depth has been about 8' with points being the best. I look for the humps to start picking up as the water continues to drop. That's the report for this week. We do have our regular boat ramp open now so launching is very easy. Everything here at Osage Bluff is open and going strong, so come on down and enjoy some good summer fishing. We are taking reservations for the upcoming holiday so for boat stalls you can contact the marina at 660-438-2939 and rooms at the motel at 660-438-2891. Looking forward to seeing everyone this summer. Till next week,    Tommy
