Osage Bluff Fishing Report 7/19/18

Updated: Jul 26, 2018

Lots of rain this week. It looks like the area had a little over 6" this week but I think it was a localized event. I live between Hogles. Creek and Little Pommie and only had a 1 1/2 but when you get north of Warsaw there was about 6" so a few miles made a big difference. I'm not sure what to expect in regards to the lake. In checking the gageheights it looks like they have crested and are dropping a little. With this I don't expect a big rise on Truman. Maybe a couple feet. The lake has been below normal pool ( 706 } almost all summer so maybe we can catch up. The water clarity is good in our area but when you get to the upper arms the rains pushed in lots of mud so they are dirty, upper Grand and upper Osage.

For all you that follow us on our web page and those who don't we have redone it so you need to check it out. You can find it at OsageBluff.com. It is very user friendly and has links to get all the info of the business so check it out.

LAKE LEVEL:            705.97

WATER TEMP:          84 deg.

WATER CLARITY:      Lightly stained to dirty.

CRAPPIE: The brush piles in our area are holding lots of fish now. Piles in 15' to 18' seem to be working the best. Minnows are the best now. Isolated trees on the flats are also good. Two or three trees together in 15' to 20' by them selves can produce some good fish. Look for trees on the flats and fish with minnows. The bluff banks are also working in 20' to 25' of water down about 15'. No matter which pattern you fish take lots of bait as you have to sort through the little fish.

BASS: With the inflow of water from the rains look in the backs of the creeks in 3' to 5' of water. Either top water or spinner baits will work here. The secondary points are still good with fish in the 4' to 8' range. Big worms and crank baits are the best. With the extra O 2 from the rains the bass will be a little more aggressive. There was lots of food washed in from the rains so I look for a good bite up shallow for a few days.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: The hybrid fishing has been very good this week. Trolling in the evenings has produced lots of nice fish around KK Island. The humps on the south end of the island has been the best with deep running crank baits. Also the live bait fishing has been producing lots of bid fish. The old airport has been one of the hot spots. these fish are suspended but are hitting live shad very aggressively. With the extra water coming in I look for the COE to run more water turning the white bass on the humps. With running water look at the weir and the humps around Point O 3 with jigging spoons.

CATFISH: Again this week the jug and rod and reel fishing is great. Cut bait on the flats in 8' to 12" of water are producing some real nice blues. Trot lines on the flats are also working in the same depth but you have to check lines about every 4 hours because of the heat. The flat heads seem to be holding along the bluffs in 20' of water. Perch has been the best when fished down about 15'.

WALLEYE: The walleye fishing is the same as last week with good numbers still being caught. Trolling deep running crank baits around the humps on the south end of KK Island is one of the hot spots. Night crawler harness rigs has also been productive.

That's it for the report this week. We are taking reservations for boat stalls for the Labor Day holiday. You can contact us at Osage Bluff Marina 660-438-2939. For rooms at the Osage Bluff Motel you can call 660-438-2891.

Till next week
