Osage Bluff Fishing Report 7/16/20

Updated: Jul 30, 2020

It sure seems funny to see the lake at normal level or below. It's at the point where you have to pay more attention where you are running because there are some trees that have been hid for a while popping out. The other down side is that the water flow through the dam has been cut way back.slowing the current flow. There are shad starting to surface now so that will help keep the fish a little active.

LAKE LEVEL:             705.66

WATER TEMP:           84 deg.

WATER CLARITY:      Clear to lightly stained.

CRAPPIE: Truman has always been known for having the best crappie fishing during the heat of the summer where as on most lakes it slows down during the summer heat Truman produces some of the best crappie fishing of the year. The brush piles are hot right now in 15' to 18' off the points. I had a couple of good reports of spider rigging the piles and I saw the fish they were nice.  The fish are holding 7' to 10' down.with both minnows and jigs working. The tree rows on the flats are also producing lots of fish with the Osage arm being the best. 15' to 18' down about 7' seems the best with minnows. Some fish are coming as shallow as 10' on the flats. Cedars and water oaks are the best right now. The bluff banks are also good in 25'+ with fish down about 15'.

BASS: The bass fishing has slowed down a little with the heat. You can still top water fish on the timbered flats early and late in the creeks with buzz baits and Pop R's. 5' to 8' seems the best. During the day it's the normal point hopping pattern with big worms or brush hogs. Big Sinko's fished weightless is still producing a few fish. Carolina rigs off the flat points in 10' to 15' of water with small creature baits is also working.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: With the water flow through the dam shut down the white bas fishing has slowed a little. There is some good surface activity going on early and late. KK Island has had some good top water action for about a week. Rooster tails and 1/4 oz jigging spoons have been working. Sunset seems to be the best time. There has been a few hybrids caught on live bait off the airport and on the Pomme flats. I haven't seen any hybrids surface yet but I don't think it will be to long before they get going.

CATFISH: Rod and reel fishing for cats is very good now. Cut bait fished on the flats in 8' to 12' of water has been producing good fish. Look for humps on the flats for some good action. Jugs with cut bait are also working in the same areas. It is my opinion that the blues are coming off the nests and should really turn on in the next couple weeks. Remember to run jugs and lines often due to the heat so you don't loose fish.

WALLEYE: The walleye bite has been good the last week. Trolling crank baits over the humps has produced some good fish. Crawler rigs with bottom bouncers has also been good off the saddles next to the humps. KK Island has been good along with the airport. The evening bite seems to be the best..
