Osage Bluff Fishing Report 6/7/18

The lake level here on Truman is getting back close to normal running about a foot high right now. The COE has been generating power about every afternoon making the evening fishing really good. The weather forecast for the weekend is looking good and with Jubilee Days going on in Warsaw it might be a good time to do the celebration in town during the day and get some good evening fishing in.

LAKE LEVEL: 707.03

WATER TEMP: 79 deg.

WATER CLARITY: Light stain.

CRAPPIE: The crappie bite remains good here on Truman with these fish locked in to the summer pattern. With the lake getting close to normal level the tree rows on the edge of the flats are easier to locate. 15' to 17' is working the best with fish holding at about 7'. Minnows are working the best. The bluff banks between Osage Bluff and the dam are producing some good sized crappie. 25' to 30' of water with 15' to 20' being the magic number in the hardwoods. Also the Brush piles in 20' of water fished with minnows has been good. It seems the fish float up and down depending on the day. Piles on the points seem to be the most productive.

BASS: The bass fishing has picked up a little this week with the females starting to feed up after the spawn. Top water is working early in the am. and at sunset. Buzz baits and Zara spooks are good right now. Secondary points in the creeks fished with crank baits in 6' to 10' of water has also been working. With the water flow through the dam these fish are holding on the current breaks. Big worms fished in long main lake points is another pattern that has started. Best action is 12' to 15' of water with fish holding at about 8'.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: Lots of action going on here. Fishing spoons on the humps in 8' to 10' of water has been doing real good. O 3 and the humps off the south end of KK Island are good along with the road bed on the north end of the island. Top water has been kind of sporadic during the day but lots of fish are hitting the top about sunset. I saw several big pods of shad this week that a few hybrids were hitting but it was a pop here and there instead of a major frenzy. KK Island, Pommie flats and the airport have been the hot spots this.

CATFISH: Jugs and rod and reel are still hot. Flats in 15' of water fished with cut bait is producing good fish. We saw several over the slot this week. I ran some flat head lines this week and ended up with one small johnnies. Had several blues in the slot. I'm kind of wondering if the flat heads aren't starting to nest.

WALLEYE: There has been a good number of walleye come in this week. The humps seem to be the most productive with bottom bumpers working the best. Crawler rigs in 12' to 15' is the way to go. Trolling deep running crank baits over the humps is another good bite early in the am. It looks like this year is going to be another good year on Truman for walleye.
