It looks like we have a little break in the summer heat we have been having. The weatherman is calling for some great weather the rest of the week. He did throw in a chance for showers but I don't think that will hurt a thing as we can still use the rain if we do get any. The lake is in good shape now and is close to normal. The COE has been generating power in the afternoons and it seems the fish have been enjoying that. The water temp is at a good level for this time of the year so it would be a good time to get out and enjoy mother nature.
The holiday is coming up fast and there are lots of events in the lakes area going to be happening. Warsaw will be doing fireworks off the dam on June 30th. We will be doing ours on Sat. July 7th. I am sure there will be more on the 4th. so come and enjoy the festivities with us here on the lake.
LAKE LEVEL: 706.11
WATER TEMP: 85 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Clear to lightly stained.
CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing remains good and is the same as it was last week. Brush piles are the most productive in 15' to 20' of water. Either minnows or jigs are working. The bluff banks in 20' to 25' of water are producing lots of fish but take lots of bait as you will go through lots of little fish to get a limit. Best depth seems to be about 15'. Minnows are working the best in the hardwoods. Had several reports this week of isolated trees on the flats holding fish. Big trees in 12' to 15' of water seem the best. And as always the tree rows on the edge of the flats are working. It seems there is one good fish to a tree so you have to keep moving. Best depths are 12' to 16' with fish holding about 7'. Minnows or jigs are working.
BASS: The bass are doing their normal summer routine of hanging out on the points. Either main lake or secondaries are working. 6' to 10' seems the best. Crank baits and big worms are the bait of choice. There is a top water bite in the early am with buzz baits and Pop R's working the best. Look for the points with the wind pushing the shad into.
WHITES & HYBRIDS: With the COE just running water in the afternoons the white bass bite has been the best in the evening. Spoons on the humps in 9' to 12' of water are the best. There has been some good top water action early in the morning and about sunset on hybrids. KK Island has had good activity around it. The airport has had some hybrids taken off it during the day with live bait. The fish seem to be holding about 18' to 20'.
CATFISH: The cat fishing is hot right now with jugs being the best of the best. Cut bait fished on the flats in 8' to 15' of water is producing lots of fish. Rod and reel fishing is also working on the flats. Best flats are the ones with a channel or deep water close by. Flats next to a channel bend are my favorites. Either cut shad or perch are working.
WALLEYE: The walleye are still hitting here on Truman. Cloudy days are the best by far. Bottom bouncers with a crawler rig is the most productive on the humps with a spoon also working. Trolling deep running crank baits picked up several fish last weekend. 10' to15' is a good place to start.
That's the report for this week. We have a couple of boat stalls left for the holiday so give us a call at Osage Bluff Marina 660-438-2939 and get one reserved. Check us out on face book at Osage Bluff Marina for the latest happenings.
Till next week
