It looks like we went from winter to summer and the spring forgot us. The good thing is the fish are biting but the lake is a little low which means it is a little tougher getting to the exact spot you want to get to. Truman is down about 6" which is not terrible but we do have to pay more attention when getting around. The lake color is perfect just about where ever you go. With the lack of the heavy spring rains we didn't get dirty.
LAKE LEVEL: 705.62
WATER TEMP: 67 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Light stain to clear.
CRAPPIE: The crappie in the mid lake area are still nesting with the females coming in. The way upper arms have finished up. Tally Bend and Sapps Landing has fish moving to the summer pattern. Minnows fished in the tree rows in 12' to 15' down 6' is working there. On mid lake look for the females in 3' to 5' of water in the pockets. This week I have notices that the steeper pockets are working a little better. Road runners and a jig and bobber have been the best baits. Check out the main lake small pocket as they are the last to start.
BASS: There are lots of bucks starting to pull in and build nests. 3' seems to be the depth they are liking. Lizards, Beavers and do nothing worms have been working. Top water has been producing some fish in the flatter points in the creeks. The females seem to be holding out in 8' to 10' yet but with the moon on the 15th and the water temp about 70 deg. it looks like this weekend things should start happening. Look at the 45 deg. chunk rock and transition banks.
WHITES and HYBRIDS: I'm thinking any day we should start seeing these fish move to the humps. With the lake being low the COE isn't running much water so this might slow them down a little but the water temp is right. Spoons in 12' to 16' on the sides of the humps will be the place to look.
CATFISH: Jugs and rod and reel drift fishing is the way to catch some real nice blues. 12' to 15' with shad fished down 6' to 8' has been working. We are seeing several fish over the slot being caught along with many in the slot and under the slot. With the water temp where it is The flat heads should be starting. .Will let you know next week.
WALLEYE: The walleye are still hanging on the flat points but it is getting to be time to start trolling the humps. Spoons and crawler harness rigs should also start improving. The Frenzy has been the best bait on the flat points. 8' to 10' of water close to drop offs are the areas to check.
