This will be the last fishing report for the season. It has been brought to my attention that the fish are biting and the deer are starting the rut so that means that I have to embark on my fall duties of enjoying mother nature from the farm. I would like to thank all the folks who help me out with info each week in keeping the report up to date I sure couldn't do it without you. I know a couple of you will enjoy sleeping a little later and not getting those early morning calls. I would also like to thank the folks out there for the nice comments on the report it makes you feel good to know people do appreciate the time and effort. Looking foreword to doing it again next year. I will still post on our Facebook page if something exciting is happening.
Lots going on in the area this weekend. Heritage Days in Warsaw is always a big deal and it is happening this week. Lots of demonstrations and booths. It is amazing some of the crafts that you can find there. I might start my Xmas shopping early. And then there is the fact that the fish are biting so you can fill the freezer and have some fun in town also. The leaves are beautiful right now either looking at them out of a boat on the lake or just driving down the highway.
The lake is about 4" high and the COE has been running water this week. This has made the fishing really good. Just about all species are on the move now starting their fall feed up. This bite should continue for another couple weeks at least so now is a good time to get in on the fall action.
LAKE LEVEL: 710.3
WATER TEMP: 65 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Stained.
CRAPPIE: Brush piles on the points at the mouths of the coves has been the best bite this week. 16' to 20' of water fished with minnows or jigs has been producing nice fish. The bridge pillars are also working. Look in 20' to 25' of water with fish holding close to the bottom. Bluff banks in 25' + water around the cedars down about 15' is another good bite. Minnows are still working the best here.
BASS: The bass are enjoying the cooler water temps and the high water. Spinner and buzz baits fished in the flooded grass is good. Look for grass points in 3' to 5' of water back in the creeks. Also spinner baits next to cedars on the flats in the way backs is coming on. Look for areas where the shad are bawled up and the wind is blowing into..
WHITES & HYBRIDS: The whites and hybrids are really hitting now. When the COE is running water the humps are working throwing spoons in 12' to 15' of water. On windy days the flat main lake points in 2' of water are hot. Rooster Tails and small crank baits are working the best. There are starting to be some nice hybrids pulling up on the points.
CATFISH: Right now you can just wear the cat fish out. They are starting their winter feed up and there are lots of good sized fish being caught. Jugs seemed to be the best this week. I've had reports of fish coming out of 15' of water to 30' of water. The creek channels fished with cut bait set 8' to 10' seems the best. Keep jugs close to the edge of the flats. This bite will continue as the water temp drops so if you want this is the time to fill the freezer for winter fish frys.
WALLEYE: Same as last week. Troll the humps in 15' of water. KK Island is still holding fish. Also crawler rigs in 18' to 20' in the saddles next to the humps with bottom bouncers.
