It looks like fall is finally here to stay. We are looking for fall temps through at least the next week. There is lots of things going on in the lakes area the next couple weeks and it looks like the weather is going to cooperate. Heritage Days will be in Warsaw on the 20 and 21st. of October. It is a fun festival with lots of displays and crafts. If you have never attended one put it on your list and if you have I'm sure you will be back. To add on to that the leaves should be in full color by then. They get prettier every day. Then there is also all the good fall fishing and hunting that's going on so you definitely don't want to miss that.
The lake is just a little above normal pool right now but with the amount of rain in KS. earlier in the week I would say we are going to get a good rise. Just guessing I would say we will see 710 by next weekend. This will be a big plus in the fall fishing. With the water temps where they are and the lake on the rise and the fish starting to feed up for winter it is going to get really good.
LAKE LEVEL: 706.7
WATER TEMP: 70 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Light Stain.
CRAPPIE: The crappie have started to move a little. Tree rows across the mouths of the creeks are producing fish. Either minnows or jigs fished in 16' to 20' of water about 2' off the bottom is working. The bridge pillars are also starting to hold some fish with minnows working the best here. Bluff points in 25' to 30' of water fished with either minnows or jigs will work also.
BASS: Spinner baits and buzz baits on the flats in the backs of the creeks close to the channels is producing some nice fish. Square bills are working on the secondary points in 4' to 6' of water. If we get the water I think we are going to get look for fish in the grass in the backs of the creeks.
WHITES & HYBRIDS: With the winds we have been having and the water temp dropping the whites have been doing great right now with a few nice hybrids added in. Flat wind blown points with fish holding in a foot of water is really going. Rooster Tails seem to be the bait or a small Rat L Trap. This fishing will continue to improve with the big hybrids moving in the cooler the water gets.
CATFISH: The cat fish are still going strong. You can catch cats on jugs, trot lines or rod and reel right now. They have started to move a little looking at moving to the creeks for there winter feed up. The mouths of the coves fished with cut bait in 16' to 20' of water along the edge of the channels is producing nice blues. Baits set about 15' has been the most productive. As the water continues to cool and the lake rises I look for these fish to start pulling back in the coves feeding on the shad in the back ends.
WALLEYE: There were some nice walleye caught last weekend. The humps around KK Island was one of the better spots. Trolling Flicker Shad in 12' to 15' of water worked the best. Crawler rigs were also working in 15' to 18'. As long as the water stays clear this bite should go for a while .
